Stenholm Joins Centrists.Org
Board of Directors
(Washington, D.C.) – Centrists.Org is pleased to announce that the Honorable Charlie Stenholm (D-TX) will serve on its Board of Directors.
“Charlie Stenholm earned tremendous respect by colleagues on both sides of the aisle for his principled, common sense approach to legislation,” said Ed Lorenzen, Centrists.Org Executive Director. I had the distinct privilege of working for Charlie Stenholm while he served in Congress. I look forward to continuing to work with him to advance the cause of centrist solutions to the challenges facing our nation.”
Mr. Stenholm was a member of the House of Representatives for 26 years. He was a founder of the “Blue Dog Coalition,” a group of moderate and conservative Democrats and served as their co-chair for policy in the 106th and 108th Congress. He has been described as “the godfather of fiscal austerity” by the Almanac of American Politics and “an unrepentant middle of the roader” by columnist David Broder.
Mr. Stenholm crafted balanced budget plans every year from 1995 through 2004, which regularly received wide national acclaim as the most honest, pragmatic, and fair proposals on the table. Additionally, he and Jim Kolbe introduced the only bipartisan Social Security reform bill in Congress.
